Based
in Kabul, Afghanistan, MMCC is an arts organization of Afghan artists using
circus, theatre, music and visual arts to educate, entertain,
heal, and transform city and rural communities throughout
the country. MMCC, is an international not-for-profit NGO that has been working in Afghanistan since June 2002.
In 2003, Seth Bloom was invited to train and direct the artists of the Afghan Mobile Mini Circus for Children. This collaboration has continued for 5 years with Seth returning for roughly 2 months every summer to develop further the artistic capacities of the MMMC artists. Over the last 5 years this
collaboration has included:Training
Afghan artists in clowning, juggling, acrobatics, stilting, improvisation,character acting and large-scale outdoor performing
(for audiences up to 7,000).
Developing the artists creative skills in devising educational
performances that are entertaining, informative, and memorable.
Topics include Landmine Awareness, Peace Education, Malaria
Prevention, and others.
Implementing
and directing the Junior Circus Artists program. A group of
young Afghan artists, (girls and boys) who perform theatre
and circus for other children in Kabul, which led to international
invitations to tour and perform in Germany and Denmark and Japan(summers 2005 & 2006)--the first ever tours of Afghan children artists overseas
in the last 25 years.
